Overview
MindPlay's Personalized Library enhances teacher efficiency and student engagement with its integrated progress monitoring system. The system adjusts students' Lexile® levels every 15 days to keep texts within their Zone of Proximal Development (ZPD). By continually tracking progress and providing actionable data, the system maintains the appropriate level of challenge and motivates students by helping them set and achieve personalized goals.
It features over 10,000 books, including fiction, nonfiction, short-form texts in English and Spanish, Public Domain Classics, and Audio Classics, accessible at school and home, ensuring students have continuous opportunities to engage with a wide variety of reading materials.
Curated Library Experience
The Library also personalizes each student's reading journey by providing tailored book recommendations based on individual interests and reading patterns. When students first enter the program, they are prompted to select five interest categories from options such as Adventure, Animals, Arts, Sports, Technology, and more. These selections help shape their personalized reading experience. The Curated Library organizes recommendations into eight distinct rows:
- Recommended based on interests
- Popular books
- Similar to books you've read
- Five additional rows tailored to the student's selected interest categories
This personalized approach increases student engagement by connecting them with texts that align with their unique preferences while still maintaining appropriate reading levels. The system continually refines its recommendations as students interact with more books, creating an increasingly tailored experience that grows with each reader.
Book Collections
Rosen Collection (Leveled Readers in English and Spanish)
MindPlay's library is enriched by a dynamic collaboration with the Rosen Publishing Group, which provides students and educators access to a collection of books in English and Spanish. This enhances the library's offerings with a diverse range of content thoughtfully curated to meet the educational needs of learners at various academic levels and foster engagement across a broad spectrum of subjects.
Decodable Book Collection
By integrating the MindPlay Decodable Book Collection with Reading Coach lessons, students can directly apply phonics skills to whole books, building confidence in decoding and word recognition. The collection features conceptual words, Dolch sight words, advanced sight words, and SuperStar Words to support comprehension. It includes high-interest, culturally relevant content with diverse illustrations and offers various formats.
Audio Books
The library’s audiobooks offer an engaging way to enhance literacy skills and foster a love of reading. They aid comprehension, vocabulary, and pronunciation by providing correct word pronunciation and natural language rhythm. Audiobooks support bilingual and multilingual students in hearing American English cadence, expose students to more complex texts, and make literature accessible to those with visual impairments or learning disabilities.
Classics
The Personalized Library features over 4,000 classic titles from renowned and diverse authors, such as Mark Twain, Emily Dickinson, Frederick Douglass, William Shakespeare, Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley, and Charlotte Bronte. With unlimited copies of each title and embedded assessments in every book, these texts are perfect for whole-class novel studies and guided reading groups.
