Overview
Setting reading goals in MindPlay enhances student engagement and helps track progress effectively. The goal-setting feature allows individual students to set personalized targets and teachers to establish class-wide objectives. By providing clear, measurable targets and visual indicators of progress, MindPlay's goal-setting functionality motivates students, promotes accountability, and celebrates achievements.
Individual Student Goals
Individual student goals empower students to take ownership of their learning journey. Students can set personal targets for weekly lessons and monthly book completion, helping them develop self-motivation while tracking their progress in real time.
What goals can students set?
Students can set two types of personal goals:
- Weekly Lesson Goals: The number of lessons a student aims to complete within a week
- Monthly Reading Goals: The number of books a student aims to read within a month
Goals are reset every week/month.
How do students track their progress?
Once a goal is established, a visual progress indicator appears in the right column of the student's learning map page. This indicator dynamically updates as the student completes lessons or books, showing:
- Percentage or fraction of completion
- Visual representation of progress
Modifying student goals
If a student finds their goal too challenging or too easy, they can adjust it by:
- Selecting the pencil icon next to the goal
- Entering a new target number
- Saving the updated goal
The progress indicator will automatically recalibrate to reflect the modified goal, ensuring that targets remain appropriately challenging and motivating.
Class-Wide Goals
Class goals unite students in working toward a common objective, fostering a collaborative learning environment. Teachers can set and monitor class-wide goals, providing a shared sense of purpose and celebration when milestones are reached.
What class goals can teachers set?
Teachers can establish class-wide goals based on the following:
- Total Lessons Completed: A cumulative count of lessons completed by all students in the class
- Total Books Read: A cumulative count of books read by all students in the class
Setting a class goal
- From the Teacher Dashboard, select the "Set class goal" button in the upper right corner
- Enter a name for the goal (optional)
- Choose the goal type (Lessons or Books)
- Specify the target amount
- Select "Create goal" to implement the goal
Tracking class progress
Once established, the goal tracking begins from the day it was created and continues until completion. The class goals are tracked in two ways:
- A progress bar appears on the Teacher Dashboard, showing current progress toward the goal
- Students can view the class goal and progress on their learning map page
Viewing contribution history
Teachers can access detailed information about how students are contributing to the class goal:
- Select the progress bar on the Dashboard
- View the goal details dialog that displays:
- Current progress (e.g., "72/100 Books")
- History of individual contributions (e.g., student names and books read)
- Dates when contributions were made
