Overview
A Signals license gives schools and teachers access to MindPlay Reading Studio's assessment-only version. With this license, students complete the Universal Screener and progress monitoring assessments to measure skills such as fluency, comprehension, and phonics.
Teachers also have the option to assign specialized assessments, including:
- Oral Reading Fluency (ORF)
- Rapid Automatized Naming (RAN)
- Dyslexia Screener
This allows the teacher/admin to set the students to Studio, Signals, Dyslexia Screener, or
Teachers receive detailed reports and visual dashboards that track growth and highlight areas of need. Unlike a full Reading Studio license, a Signals license does not include instructional lessons—it focuses solely on providing reliable data to guide instruction and intervention planning.
Settings
Administrators and teachers can manage key program settings directly within MindPlay Studio.
- Benchmark Dates: Set and adjust academic calendar benchmark dates, including BOY (Beginning of Year), Benchmark 1, Benchmark 2, and EOY (End of Year) assessments.
- Spanish Configurations: Enable Spanish audio instructions for the Universal Screener.
- Progress Monitor Test Frequency: Control how often progress monitoring assessments are administered to students.
- Studio License Type: Assign students to the appropriate license type: Studio, Signals, Dyslexia Screener, or Inactive.
Student Dashboard
The Student Dashboard provides learners a clear view of their progress and next steps in MindPlay Reading Studio. From this dashboard, students can:
- View their Foundational Skills Profile to understand strengths and areas for growth.
- Track Reading Level Growth over time.
- Access and complete any assigned lessons or activities.
This streamlined experience helps students stay motivated, organized, and actively engaged in their learning journey.

Teacher Dashboard
Teachers can easily monitor student performance through the Teacher Dashboard. From this view, teachers can:
- Access each student's Foundational Skills Profile to identify strengths and areas needing support.
- Track reading growth across assessment periods.
- Review individual assessment scores and measure progress over time.
This reporting helps teachers make informed instructional decisions and provide targeted support for every learner.
